Neural Therapy at Katallage Wellness Center

Neural Therapy is a medical injection system that identifies and treats disturbances in the body’s neurological control mechanisms—often referred to as “interference fields.” According to the North American Academy of Neural Therapy (NAANT), these interference fields can occur almost anywhere in the body, are often subtle, and are treated with small injections of dilute procaine or other local anesthetics with the goal of restoring healthy autonomic regulation. Neural Therapy has deep roots in German and Colombian medical traditions and is considered a physiology-based approach grounded in anatomy, neurology, and autonomic function.

How Neural Therapy works

Neural Therapy uses very small injections of a local anesthetic (commonly procaine) placed into targeted tissues—often the skin, scars, trigger points, segmental areas, peripheral nerves, or autonomic ganglia—based on the clinical presentation and exam. The intent is not simply “numbing.” Instead, Neural Therapy aims to reset dysregulated autonomic signaling so the nervous system can shift from a persistent stress-pattern toward improved regulation, circulation, and tissue healing responses. NAANT describes the approach as safe and broadly applicable in clinical practice, especially when autonomic involvement is suspected.

How we use Neural Therapy in clinic

At Katallage Wellness Center, Neural Therapy is integrated into a whole-person treatment plan. We use it to support regulation of the autonomic nervous system and to address potential interference fields that may be maintaining symptoms. A key part of the method is that Neural Therapy is rarely used as a stand-alone therapy; it is often paired with other supportive strategies based on the patient’s needs—such as targeted nutrition, gut and inflammatory support, restorative sleep strategies, mind-body regulation, and, when appropriate, complementary IV therapies offered in our clinic. This creates a coordinated plan rather than a one-size-fits-all intervention.

Patients who may benefit

Neural Therapy is most often considered when symptoms suggest an autonomic component—especially when conventional approaches have not fully resolved the issue, or when symptoms appear disproportionate to findings. NAANT notes broad application, including unexplained pain syndromes and many conditions where the autonomic nervous system is involved. In a clinical setting, Neural Therapy may be helpful for patients experiencing:

  • chronic or recurrent pain patterns (neck, back, pelvic pain, post-injury pain patterns)

  • migraines or recurring headache syndromes (especially when associated with prior injuries, dental/jaw history, or scar patterns)

  • post-surgical or post-trauma symptoms where scar or tissue irritation may be contributing to persistent dysregulation

  • autonomic imbalance patterns such as fight-or-flight, freeze or fawn physiology (sleep disruption, tension patterns, gut motility changes, or persistent sympathetic activation) where a targeted regulatory approach may support the larger plan

  • complex symptom pictures where dentistry/ENT history, old infections, or injuries appear temporally linked to symptom onset (we collaborate with appropriate clinicians when dental evaluation is indicated)

What to expect at a visit

A Neural Therapy visit includes a detailed history focused on timelines (injuries, surgeries, infections and may include history and physical), symptom patterning, and autonomic features. Following an assessment, we may recommend a targeted series of injections. Many patients describe the injections as quick and tolerable; the goal is gentle regulation, not aggressive intervention.

Safety and medical oversight

Neural Therapy uses local anesthetics in low concentrations and is performed by licensed medical professionals trained in injection technique and safety. As with any injection procedure, there are potential risks (e.g., temporary soreness, bruising, lightheadedness, rare reactions). We review contraindications, medications, allergies, and relevant medical history before proceeding.
